Canada’s fastest growing independent media company is looking for a new Advertising & Sales Manager.
Position Overview
The Advertising & Sales Manager is the manager-level employee or contractor responsible for overseeing the advertising and high-level sales of the Western Standard.
The Western Standard is a high-traffic online news and commentary platform that sells banner advertising, online show sponsorships, sponsored content/advertorial, and both individual and corporate memberships/subscriptions.
Reporting and Parameters
The Advertising & Sales Manager reports directly to the Operations Director.
He or she will have their performance reviewed on an annual basis.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee the Advertising and Sales Department of the Western Standard.
Make direct sales of Western Standard advertising and corporate membership/subscription products to potential clients.
Provide leadership, direction, and support to the Sales Team.
Meet with the Operations Manager, other Operations Division staff, and the Sales Team to develop short and long-term goals, and ensure compliance with the Western Standard’s Company Values.
Update and revise plans to improve the Western Standard’s profitability and progress.
Ensure all goals are met based on the Western Standard’s Business Plan.
Work with clients to successfully conclude contracts, and produce ad copy.
Ensure that appropriate ad copy is managed on website advertising space and that colleagues in the News Division and the Opinion & Broadcast Division are aware of relevant contractual obligations.
Monitor the advertising inventory and ensure that it is always sold out.
Maintain awareness and knowledge of the Western Standard’s readership and editorial metrics.
Create and maintain relationships with community and industry leaders and encourage investment in the Western Standard.
Job Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
5-8 years’ industry experience.
Understanding of business, marketing, digital marketing, sales, and technical issues.
Financial and operational knowledge of the industry.
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills.
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Innovative and entrepreneurial mindset, motivational abilities, and the ability to find and retain talented employees.
